5th SA Innovation Summit

The 5th SA Innovation Summit will be held at the Forum at The Campus in Sandton, Johannesburg on 29 and 30 August 2012 with Pre Summit workshops on 28 August 2012.

The 5th SA Innovation Summit will provided unique opportunity for a select group of speakers to share their experiences and knowledge with national and international participants. This year’s Innovation Summit will explore the role of governments, corporations, academia and individuals as drivers of innovation and investigate principles that lead to sustainable successful innovation systems. The 5th SA Innovation Summit will be focusing on how to build innovation capabilities in Africa and how to create regional innovation systems.

We often hear about the challenges facing Africa, but seldom do we hear about the innovation and creativity emerging throughout the continent. Africa is now among the fastest-growing economic regions in the world, creating significant business opportunities in a wide range of industries. The key to the growth surge is government reforms that create greater political stability, improve the macroeconomic environment and energise the business environment.

The question to ourselves should be – How to we seize these opportunities? How do we ensure we unlock value to the benefit of Africa and stimulate growth, employment, education and reduce poverty, address health and service delivery issues, tap into green energy and leave a legacy for our children.

If recent trends continue, Africa will play an increasingly important role in the global economy. By 2040, the continent will be home to one in five planet’s young people and will have the world’s largest working age population. If Africa can give its young people sufficient education and skills, we could be substantial source of consumption and production ahead.
